Warpath is an exciting book about a once proud and very good neighborhood that has now turned into hell. I can say this because I lived there the first 19 years of my life. This is one of those types of books that you can't put down. It is full of characters, both good and evil, and a race to the end to see who /5(11). After the problems with Shawnees, Blue Jacket and Tecumseh following the revolutionary war, the book ends as it began with a resurgence of the fur trade and the career of the first great American entrepreneur J.J. Astor, who is given credit for opening the China trade. There is no helpful chronology/5(8). The book tells the tragic story of the political and military struggles between the Shawnee and the European powers and later the U.S.A in the Ohio Valley. It touches only briefly on ethnographic and economic history of the people The author drew on historical sources (treaty's, journals, and other written sources) as opposed to archeological /5. Blue Jacket:War Chief of the Shawnees This is a true story of Blue Jackets life. This will keep the readers interest. It's informative, exciting and historically accurate. The Winning of America series should be a must read for American history classes, at the least for Ohio history/5(93).

The Shawnees and the War for America. With the courage and resilience embodied by their legendary leader Tecumseh, the Shawnees waged a war of territorial and cultural resistance for half a century/5(2). Long before the American Revolution, the Shawnees lived in Ohio, hunted in Kentucky, and traveled as far afield as Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Missouri. White settlers, however, sharply curtailed their freedom. With the courage and resilience embodied by their legendary leader Tecumseh, the Shawnee tribe waged a war of territorial and cultural resistance that lasted for /5(2).   In fact, the author weaves the poetry of Whitman and Thoreau throughout the book in a effort to set the backdrop for a person like Daniel Boone. He is soft-spoken, but deliberate. Honest and skilled in the ways of the wild. Yet, he chooses to ignore the bad side of humanity, often to his detriment/5. The Great Indian Warpath, also known as the Great Indian War and Trading Path, or the Seneca Trail, was was a network of ancient Indian routes with many branches. The Native American trail ran through the Great Appalachian Valley and the Appalachian Mountains through several states including New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia.

The idea that Van Swearingen and Blue Jacket were the same person has been pretty well disproven through DNA testing since Eckert wrote this novel, but the basic frame of the story is historical, and Eckert tries hard to give an authentic portrayal of daily life among the Shawnees/5.   With the courage and resilience embodied by their legendary leader Tecumseh, the Shawnees waged a war of territorial and cultural resistance for half a century.
